Section @375 of the Indian Penal Code defines rape as “#_sexual_intercourse with a woman against her will, without her consent, by coercion, misrepresentation or fraud or at a time when she has been intoxicated or duped, or is of unsound mental health and in any case if she is under #_18 years of age.”
Whoever, except in the cases provided for in #_sub-section (2), commits rape, shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than ten years, but which may #_extend to imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.
Sedition is a #_non-bailable offence.
The Criminal Law (#_Amendment) Act, 2013, also known as the #_Nirbhaya Act was passed in Parliament to amend Section 375. The amendment was majorly done to rule out the #_ambiguity that existed in the previous law and created room for the strict punishment during the occurrences of #_sexual violence.
